Descrizione:
The REPOrt study, “REhabilitation Practice and Associations with Outcomes in Critically Ill Invasively Ventilated Patients”, is an international multicenter observational study aimed at exploring rehabilitation practices in intensive care units (ICUs) globally. Critically ill patients on invasive ventilation frequently develop ICU-acquired weakness (ICU-AW), which is associated with increased mortality and long-term morbidity. Rehabilitation interventions such as mobilization, respiratory physiotherapy, and cognitive support have shown benefits but are often underutilized, likely due to resource limitations. The aim of this study is to describe current rehabilitation practices and evaluate their associations with key ICU outcomes, including ICU and hospital mortality, length of stay, and functional performance 28 days post-discharge.
The study consists of three modules, with participation contingent on local capabilities and feasibility:
1. BASIC Module: Mandatory for all centers, collecting fundamental information on rehabilitation practices and their outcomes.
2. EXTENDED Module: Optional, gathering detailed data on rehabilitation interventions, including type, timing, duration, and the professionals involved in delivering these interventions.
3. EXTENDED FOLLOW-UP Module: Also optional, focusing on quality of life and functional performance after ICU-discharge.
Eligible patients are those aged 18 or older who have received invasive ventilation for at least 48 hours, with informed consent obtained when necessary. Patients admitted for withdrawn of life sustain therapy are excluded. The goal is to screen between 1,200 and 2,400 patients across 60 centers within a predefined 120-day enrollment period, starting in 2025. Data will be captured in an electronic database, ensuring a comprehensive overview of rehabilitation practices and their clinical impact on critically ill patients.
