Department Overview

The Department of Surgical Sciences and Integrated Diagnostics (DISC) coordinates research, teaching and training activities in the field of general and specialistic surgery, promoting integration between surgical, odontostomatological, medical and biological disciplines.

DISC was established by the decree n° 1328/2009 becoming effective from January the 1st, 2010, as a result of the merger of four previous departments (DICMI, DISCMIT, DISMR, and DISTBIMO).

DISC coordinates educational, training and research activities in the field of general and specialistic surgery promoting their integration with biological medical disciplines and physical sciences. The Department is also enriched by the section of clinical dentistry.

The clinical-experimental research strategies implemented at the DISC, also through participation in numerous research projects and clinical trials at national/international level, propose the achievement of results with high clinical transferability.
